Week Six

Part 2 Activity 3

I have learned that it is harder to design instruction from a video media perspective than any single or other media. It requires some special skills on video production. Also, it is time consuming and costly compare to any other media instruction. It is difficult for designer implementing instruction using video media. It requires lots of planning such as creating a script, preparing recording devices, editing video and formatting etc. processes to produce a final product.

The benefits of video media instruction are learner’s ability to replay the instruction, use it whenever they need and give freedom to reflect based on each individual level. Video instruction is more interactive, engaging, convenient and some level of entertaining. In a study comparing students’ perceptions of traditional text-based instruction versus video instruction, Choi and Johnson (2005) found that “video was more memorable for students. They also claimed it was easier to pay attention to video instruction rather than only text.”

Learners have the control to experiencing video instruction. Also, learners become more engaging with a meaningful video instruction. Learners are independent to work on their own pace to process information using video than in a traditional classroom instruction. This instruction is especially beneficial for distance learning
